Happy Birthday Check Services

Check Services is 40 years old today.

Check Services celebrated this milestone with afternoon drinks, an evening meal and party for all staff and partners.

The event took place at the wonderful Hotel du Vin in Birmingham. A great afternoon and evening which moved between their Courtyard;  Krug room and then to the Pub du Vin in the basement. Everybody stayed over so we were all able to relax and enjoy an excellent day. There was a presentation on ‘The History of Check Services’ as well as a quiz followed by prizes and ‘thank you’ gifts.

Dave Banks (Director) is also celebrating the same milestone; 40 years ago he joined the company. Lewis Jenkins (Managing Director) presented Dave with a gift to thank him for his service over the last 40 years.

Other gifts included bouquets of flowers for Denise (Office Manager) and Margaret Jenkins (Director). Bottles of champagne, chocolates and other gifts were given to a number of staff as part of the presentation evening.

JAS Bowman Mill at Ickleford and Whitley Bridge to close

Ickleford Mill was bought by the Bowman Family more than 100 years ago and has been milling flour since 1914. It is the end of an era for Bowmans Milling but the family name continues through Bowman Ingredients. The decision has now been made to concentrate on their Ingredients business and withdraw from the Milling Market altogether.

Marks and Spencer Code of Practice – Pest Prevention V3

In February this year Marks and Spencer (M&S) brought out Version 3 of their Codes of Practice for Pest Prevention. The only significant change is the scope of the CoP, earlier versions excluded pre-packed and basic produce, this has been removed with Version 3. The main content of the CoP all remains the same as Version 2.

Many of our customers are part of the supply chain for M&S and consequently they are working to the new Pest Prevention Guidance document. At Check Services Ltd we are naturally interested in the changes relating to the pest control to ensure we can provide a service that complies with all aspects of the Specification. When the various supplier Codes of Practice are updated,  it is vital that our service, reporting systems and all our field staff adapt quickly to comply with the standards.

Service

Our Premier Specification is designed around the various supermarket / supplier standards and we quickly adapt it as necessary for the M&S Code of Practice (Pest Prevention) as well as other specifications such as  Waitrose Pest Control Policy; BRC Global Standard for Food Safety; Tesco Food Manufacturing Standard; Soil Association Organic Standard etc.

Reporting Systems

Our reporting system is designed and structured to provide a comprehensive documentation of our service as part of an Integrated Pest Management for our customers. In addition to this, our reporting format provides information in a way that allows auditors to easily find all the information they require.

Field Staff

Due to the high percentage of our customers who work to the M&S CoP, all of our staff understand and are trained to carry out pest control in food production environments and part of this includes complying with Version 3 (February 2016).

Waitrose Pest Control Policy Version 3

Last year Waitrose joined many of the other supermarkets by introducing their own supplier standards. The latest document relating to pest control, Waitrose Pest Control Policy V3, was introduced in January 2015 and became effective immediately following it’s issue.

Many of our customers are part of the supply chain for Waitrose and consequently they are working to the new Pest Control Policy document. At Check Services Ltd we are naturally interested in the changes relating to the pest control section to ensure we can provide a service that complies with all aspects of the Policy. When the various supplier Codes of Practice are updated,  it is vital that our service, reporting systems and all our field staff adapt quickly to comply with the standards.
